Christmas Stylist Tiff Hunt’s 3 Rules for Trimming Your Tree

Christmas Stylist Tiff Hunt’s 3 Rules for Trimming Your Tree

Atlanta-based Christmas stylist Tiffany Hunt, founder of TH Events Etc, is redefining holiday décor with her stunning tree designs. Here are her top three tips for creating a festive, professional-quality tree at home!

Tiffany Hunt is one of Atlanta’s premier Christmas stylists and Christmas tree designers, best known for transforming ordinary trees into extraordinary works of art. As the founder and designer of TH Events Etc and the talent behind the stunning holiday displays on @theventsetc, Tiff has made quite the name for herself in the holiday styling scene.

Her inspiration comes from her grandmother and mother, who created beautiful trees every holiday season that serve as the centerpieces of her holiday memories. Combined with her love of Christmas, Hunt decided to turn that joy and tradition into a thriving business, curating unique, elegant, and unforgettable designs for both residential and commercial clients.

We caught up with Tiff to get her expert advice on how you can achieve that polished, professional holiday look at home. She shared her three essential rules for styling a festive tree, so that you can capture the same warmth and wonder that defined her childhood holidays.

Rule #1 Always Fluff Your Tree

“Fluffing is the foundation of a beautiful Christmas tree design.” This might seem like a small step, but it makes a huge difference in the overall look of your tree, no matter if it is real or artificial. For a full and lush look, start at the bottom and work your way up and don’t forget about the inner branches.

“Take your time to separate and shape each branch, bending them upward and outward to fill gaps. This step instantly makes your tree look fuller, more natural, and gives your decorations a balanced base to shine,” Hunt shared.

Rule #2: Choose a Color Scheme

“Think of your tree as a blank canvas waiting to be painted.” While it may be tempting to put all your cherished ornaments on your tree, if you want a more elevated look, Hunt recommends choosing two to three main colors and building your design around them.

“This creates a cohesive look, avoids clutter, and allows each element—ribbon, ornaments, and accents—to complement each other beautifully.”

Rule #3: Layer Your Decorations

For those looking to achieve that rich, textured look that you see in expertly designed displays, Tiffany notes that strategic layering is the key to success. “Start with your largest ornaments first, spacing them evenly to create balance. Then add medium-sized pieces, and finish with smaller accents and fillers. This layering technique adds depth and dimension, making your tree look professionally styled.”
